Happy Hoppers Square Dance Club (“Happy Hoppers,” “we,” “us”) is a community square dance club. We operate this website to share information about our events, lessons, and membership. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

Information you give us

When you create an account, register for lessons, RSVP to an event, or send a message in Hopper Chat, we collect what you give us — typically your name, email address, role within the club, and any messages or content you choose to post.

Sign-in cookies

When you log in we set two cookies, accessToken and refreshToken, so the site can remember you on subsequent visits. These are essential for the account feature to work; they are not used for advertising or tracking. They expire after 7 and 30 days respectively, or when you sign out.

Browser storage

We store a couple of small preferences in your browser’s localStorage so the site behaves consistently across visits: which background video to play next in the homepage rotation (hh.hero-video.idx) and whether you’ve turned sound on or off (hh.hero.sound). These live only in your browser and are not sent to us.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate (page views, referrers, device categories). Plausible does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not collect any information that personally identifies you.

Social sign-in

If you choose to sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, or Microsoft, we receive your name and email address from that provider so we can create or look up your Happy Hoppersaccount. We do not receive your password, your contacts, your friends list, or any other data from those providers. Each provider has its own privacy policy that applies to your use of their service.

How we use it

  • To run the website and your account (sign-in, lesson registration, RSVPs).
  • To communicate with you about Happy Hoppers events, lessons, and club announcements.
  • To improve the site based on aggregated usage patterns.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling.

How long we keep it

Account information stays until you ask us to delete it. Chat messages persist for the life of the channel unless you delete them. Analytics data is kept for up to 24 months in aggregate. Sign-in cookies expire automatically (see above).

Your choices

  • Delete your account. Email us (see below) and we will remove your profile and personal information from our systems.
  • Clear cookies. Your browser can clear sign-in cookies at any time — this will sign you out.
  • Clear browser storage. You can clear the localStorage preferences in your browser’s site settings.

Children

Some Happy Hoppers programs are open to families with younger dancers. If a student under 13 registers, a parent or guardian is responsible for the account and for any information provided. If you believe a child has signed up without consent, contact us and we will remove the account.

Security

We follow common-sense security practices: passwords are hashed, the site is served over HTTPS, sign-in cookies are marked HttpOnly and SameSite=Strict, and database backups are kept on the same infrastructure we control. No system is perfectly secure; please use a unique password and let us know promptly if you suspect your account has been compromised.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. If we make a material change that affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll let club members know by email.
